MyPyramid Menu Planner: Plan your meals the healthy way!
STILLWATER, Okla. – Plan your next meal with the MyPyramid Menu Planner and be assured you and your family are eating a nutritious and balanced meal.
The USDA recently announced the release of the MyPyramid Menu Planner in an effort to help individuals plan healthier menus based on the recommendations of the MyPyramid food guidance system and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Janice Hermann, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service nutrition education specialist, said the new MyPyramid Menu Planner is a state-of-the-art online guidance tool which provides nutritional guidance and the latest in a series of nutrition tools developed by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.
“The Menu Planner is a great tool for those interested in healthful and nutritious diets,” Hermann said. “This tool is free of charge and based on the information you provide it interactively shows whether your diet is balanced and allows you to track it. Based on what you plan to eat it will give you an easy way to know whether you will lose or gain weight and it helps you plan upcoming meals.”
You can find the Menu Planner at www.MyPyramid.gov and click on the MyPyramid Menu Planner link.
Enter your age, gender, height, weight and physical activity level and then begin entering food items and amounts you might consume each day. The screen then displays visual feedback as each item is added. From this information, different reports can be seen and printed including daily, weekly or family menus, a nutrient breakdown of food items and goal setting sheets.
Hermann said the MyPyramid Menu Planner helps consumers instantly see the results of their choices and helps them live a more nutritiously balanced life.
