Wheatland Stocker Conference slated

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 21st Annual Wheatland Stocker Conference is slated Aug. 22 at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center in Enid.

“The 2007 Wheatland Stocker Conference will allow cattle producers the opportunity to gain a lot of valuable information,” said Greg Highfill, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Service Northwest District area livestock specialist. “I would encourage stocker cattle producers to attend the conference to learn the most up-to-date issues concerning stocker management.”

The conference begins at 8:45 a.m. and concludes after the 1:45 p.m. session.

Information for registration can be found by contacting your local OSU Cooperative Extension office or by calling Highfill at 580-237-7677 or email at greg.highfill@okstate.edu. Registration is due by Aug. 17.

Conference topics and speakers include: Everything You Wanted to Know about Ethanol Co-Products, Dave Lalman and Chris Richards, OSU Cooperative Extension beef cattle specialists; Myriad of Factors Affecting the Beef Markets, Derrell Peel, OSU Cooperative Extension livestock marketing specialist; Assessing Wheat Pasture Least Agreement, A.L. Hutson, Duncan; What I Have Learned in the Stocker Business, Tom Gallery, Gallery Ranch LLC; Preventive Health Programs in Stocker Cattle, Dr. Brad White, DVM, Kansas State University; and The Big Picture of Treating Respiratory Disease in Stocker Cattle, Dr. Mike Apley , DVM, Kansas State University.

“This conference offers a wide-variety of information for producers and the speakers bring a lot of knowledge to the conference,” said Highfill. “I believe this conference will present participants with knowledge they can take back and apply to their own operation.”
