Sunrise on Section 5 of the OSU Research Range

The Research Range is home to livestock and wildlife alike.

The Research Range is home to several cattle herds, both purebred and commercial. OSU researchers use these herds to study every phase of the beef industry.

Researchers experiment with prescribed burns and their effectiveness as a pasture maintenance tool.

Burning pastures is a very effective method of removing weeds and unwanted plant species and promotes increased forage growth.

The prescribed burns are also used as training experiences for firefighters and students in the fire academy.

Many pastures are burned in patches to allow both grazing and regrowth in the same pasture at the same time.

The OSU Research Range is not just rolling prairie. The landscape is diverse and beautiful.

The range also hosts tours, seminars and workshops throughout the year.
